Travel Documents for Children

Are you travelling with the family, including children? Here you will find the information you need about the documentation to travel with the little ones.

First, you need to bear in mind that children must have a valid ID card or passport, just like adults.

The only exceptions are
children under 14 travelling within Spain. These do not need to carry an ID card or passport if they are accompanied by an adult over 18 in the same booking.

Children under 18 who are Spanish nationals or residents of Spain and are travelling abroad from Spain without their parents or a legal guardian must carry a valid ID card or passport as well as a consent form signed by their parents or guardian.

Children under 14 and infants

Children and infants in this category do not need to carry any documentation, provided that they are included in the same booking as the accompanying adults. However, even though it is not mandatory, if they have their own documentation, we recommend that they carry it, as well as the Spanish "libro de familia" (family record book), because the authorities at certain airports may ask for it.

Unaccompanied minors (12-18 years old)

They must show their national ID card or passport (expired documents will be accepted).

Children between ages 14 and 18

Children under age 18 and infants must have their own documentation (valid ID card or passport). Inclusions of children on a parent's passport are not considered valid.
