Carriage of battery-powered wheelchairs

For safety reasons, your wheelchair or mobility aid must be authorised for acceptance by the company and must meet the requirements indicated below. We company may refuse carriage if the wheelchair or mobility aid does not meet these requirements.

There are three main types of batteries:

Battery type

Non-spillable
Dry battery (including integrated battery)

Gel battery

Wet (sealed) battery

• The battery terminals and other electrical circuits must be isolated to prevent the device from being accidentally switched on.


• The battery must be securely attached to the device or removed according to the manufacturer's instructions (if designed to do so).


• You can carry a maximum of one spare battery, with no power limitation.

Lithium battery  Lithium ion battery

• If the battery is NOT removable:

  • It must be securely attached to the device. In this case, there is no power limitation for the battery.
  • You must ensure that all electrical circuits are isolated and cannot be accidentally activated.

• If the battery IS removable:

  • It must be removed according to the manufacturer's instructions and carried on board.
  • The battery must not exceed 300 Wh, or if 2 batteries are carried, these may not exceed 160 Wh each.
  • The spare batteries have the same power requirements, so you can carry a maximum of:
    • 1 lithium ion battery that may NOT exceed 300 Wh, or
    • 2 batteries that do not exceed 160 Wh each.
    • Removed or spare batteries must be protected from damage (e.g. by placing each battery in a protective pouch).
Spillable Wet battery

These types of batteries are not accepted on board.
